Surat: The food samples collected from Shital Restaurant in Varachha after a family of five fell ill following a meal there on Aug 17, with a five-year-old girl subsequently dying, have been found safe for human consumption, according to a report from the Surat Municipal Corporation’s public health laboratory.The family had reportedly suffered symptoms of food poisoning after consuming food from the restaurant. The child died a day later, prompting the civic health department to inspect the restaurant and collect food samples for testing.The health department collected samples of dishes served at Shital Restaurant and sent them to the municipal public health laboratory for analysis. The laboratory report found the samples met the standards laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act, with no deviations recorded in the samples submitted for examination.The case had triggered public concern and calls for strict action against any establishment found violating food safety rules. With the laboratory findings clearing the sampled dishes from Shital Restaurant, officials said the results would be taken on record as part of the ongoing review of the incident and the citywide inspection initiative.
