Noida: Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations (FONRWA) has urged Noida Authority to crack down on unauthorised paying guest (PG) accommodation operating in residential sectors, citing fire safety lapses, parking scarcity and security concerns.In a letter to the Authority, secretary general of FONRWA — which represents more than 120 RWAs — KK Jain said many PGs are functioning without the required permissions or adherence to safety norms.He alleged that several of them lack basic fire safety infrastructure, including fire extinguishers and emergency exits, posing a serious risk to occupants. “Most of these accommodation do not have essential fire safety equipment, which could lead to catastrophic accidents,” Jain said.Residents said the increasing number of illegal PGs has changed the character of residential neighbourhoods, causing parking problems, traffic congestion, sanitation issues, noise pollution and security concerns.“The commercial operation of PGs in residential areas is making everyday life increasingly difficult for families,” said RWA general secretary for Blocks C to F in Sector 51 Sanjeev Kumar.Jain said FONRWA has repeatedly flagged the issue through letters and meetings with Authority officials but alleged that “little action” was taken against unauthorised establishments.The residents’ body has demanded a comprehensive survey of PGs and other commercial activities in residential sectors, closure of unauthorised facilities and strict enforcement of fire safety and building regulations. It warned that continued inaction could result in serious accidents and loss of life and property.Noida Authority officials, however, said they regularly conduct drives against unauthorised commercial activities in residential areas. They said notices are issued to those found violating the rules and action is taken as per regulations.
