Chennai: Every govt event chaired by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will be preceded by a folk performance for at least 30 minutes, School Education and Tamil Development Minister Rajmohan said on Saturday. The decision, which will be implemented through a govt order, will promote folk artists of the state and boost their employment.At a students-artists confluence in the city on Independence Day, Rajmohan said the move will keep several folk performers and traditional Tamil artists employed for over 100 days a year.He stressed the growing prominence of visual arts and said the govt was committed to taking it to all sections of society. “We will screen a special movie for children with autism every month at the MGR Film and Television Training Institute,” he said. Last month, the govt screened an animated movie ‘Finding Nemo’ for 40 children with autism at the MGR Film Institute.The minister also urged students to learn about the rich heritage of Tamil civilization. “Archaeological findings in Keeladi have shown that our civilization was very advanced. It revealed our close ties to art. We must carry that legacy forward,” he added.Earlier, the minister interacted with students, who had put up stalls displaying traditional and ancient percussion instruments and martial arts equipment.
