Kanpur: Five universities, including host CSJMU Kanpur, are jointly leading after the first round in North Zone Inter University Women Chess Championship being played here at Kanpur University. The other four universities are Delhi University, Panjab University, Lovely Professional University and Allahabad University. All have two match points and four board points each.Maharshi Dayanand University Rohtak, Punjabi University Patiala, Central University Haryana Mahendragarh, Himachal Pradesh University, Bhimrao Ambedkar University Agra and University of Jammu too have two points each. Sardar Patel University Mandi (HP), Doon University, University of Lucknow and Chaudhary Charan Singh University shared points and have one point each. Around 150 women chess players from 26 universities of North Zone are participating in this championship which will be played till Oct 29, 2026.Chief guest Sanjay Kapoor, former president of Chess Federation of India, in the morning inaugurated the championship in the presence of Vandana Pathak, a senior Ayurveda expert.
