Sasaram: Five teachers have been suspended after a video purportedly showing an altercation, physical assault and exchange of abusive language among teachers at a school in Nokha went viral on social media on Thursday.Those suspended include two women teachers, Anju Kumari and Uma Kumari, who allegedly assaulted their colleague Abhishek Upadhyay. Abhishek, who is seen being assaulted in the video, has also been suspended. The other two teachers are Nityanand Bharti and Umesh Kumar, whose roles are being examined.District education officer Madan Rai said action was taken against all five for allegedly bringing disrepute to the dignity and decorum of the school. The department had earlier ordered an inquiry through a district programme officer.The incident allegedly occurred on Sept 5, Teachers’ Day, at Higher Secondary School Plus Two, Chanki, and the middle school functioning on the same campus. The video shows a heated argument before Anju and Uma allegedly assault Abhishek. Abusive language can also be heard.Amid the commotion, one of the women teachers is heard alleging “bad touch” against the male teacher. Another teacher is seen recording the incident. The altercation allegedly took place while students were present on the premises.According to sources, tension had been prevailing among some teachers over minor issues for several days before the confrontation escalated on Teachers’ Day.The incident drew attention after the video surfaced on social media. Following a telecast of the report, the education department initiated action against the teachers involved.One teacher had approached Nokha police station in connection with the incident, but no FIR was registered at that stage, allegedly following intervention by some senior education department officials.The department is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the individual roles of those involved. The incident has also raised concerns over discipline and professional conduct in schools, particularly as the alleged assault took place in the presence of students on Teachers’ Day.
