T’puram: A 21-year-old fisherman drowned after he reportedly became exhausted while swimming towards the shore after mooring his fishing boat near Vizhinjam harbour.The deceased was Prakash Libin, of Mandaikkad Kalkulam in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred around 8pm after Libin and another fisherman had finished fishing and moored their boat near the harbour.According to the coastal police, the two fishermen were swimming towards the shore when Libin reportedly became exhausted and was unable to continue swimming. He subsequently sank into the sea.The other fisherman and people nearby immediately brought Libin to the shore and rushed him to a hospital. However, doctors confirmed that he had died by then, police said.The coastal police registered a case under the provisions relating to unnatural death and initiated further proceedings.After completing the necessary procedures, the body was handed over to Libin’s relatives. They subsequently took the body to Tamil Nadu for the last rites.Further details are being examined as part of the case.
