Patna: Fire broke out twice at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Friday, damaging documents and some equipment, though no patient or staff member was injured.The first incident occurred around noon in the hospital’s pathology department, where flames spread across a large section of the unit. PMCH superintendent Dr Rajiva Kumar Singh said only a few patients had come for biopsy and bone marrow tests at the time and were safely evacuated.“Some old documents were destroyed, but the situation was brought under control in time. The fire was caused by a short circuit,” he said.Another fire was reported around 4.30pm in the old gynaecology department. Officials said the department had already been shifted to a new building last month and no patients were present there when the fire broke out.Dr Singh said preliminary findings indicated that the fire may have started due to entangled wires during the shifting of materials from the old unit.Both incidents were controlled without any casualties. Officials said the damage was limited to records and equipment, and patient care remained unaffected. However, the back-to-back fires raised concern within the hospital premises.
