Thiruvananthapuram: A house was completely gutted in a fire at Punnam Karikkakom near Kattakada on Friday, though the occupants escaped unhurt.The fire broke out at a small two-room house belonging to Sridevi, a member of Haritha Karma Sena. Sridevi and her husband were in the house at the time of the incident but managed to get out after noticing the flames. According to preliminary information, the fire was suspected to have spread from the stove while cooking. By the time help arrived, the blaze had engulfed the house and most of the household items were destroyed. Cash, important documents and other valuable papers were also destroyed. Officials said Sridevi’s name was included in the list for LIFE housing scheme, and documents related to it were also lost in the incident. Fire and rescue services personnel from Kattakada station reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Station officer Manu led the rescue operations with the assistance of grade station officer Sajeendran and other officers. Further investigation is under way.
