Chennai: A major fire broke out at the 11th floor of an apartment complex in Thaiyur near Kelambakkam on OMR on Wednesday night following an LPG leak. No casualties were reported.The complex has around 1,500 flat sacross 18 floors, with more than 4,000 residents. Around 9pm, residents of a flat on the 11th floor noticed a gas leak. The occupants immediately rushed out before it caught fire. The flames soon spread to neighbouring flats and the gas cylinder exploded triggering panic. Fire tenders from Tiruporur, Siruseri and Kovalam were rushed to the complex and firefighters battled the blaze before bringing it under control.Residents of the affected and neighbouring flats were evacuated. Fire and rescue personnel are assessing the extent of damage.
