Namakkal: A fire broke out at the Namakkal municipal corporation’s solid waste management composting facility in Kosavampatty on Sunday.A plastic sorting machine worth 5 lakh was damaged in the fire. Firefighters from the Namakkal fire station battled for about three hours to bring the fire under control.Biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste collected from the public from 39 wards under the corporation is taken to the facility and segregated there. After segregation, the leftover waste is dumped at the facility. This dumped garbage suddenly caught fire, which rapidly spread across the facility. Corporation officials are investigating how the garbage caught fire and whether any of the employees set the fire.
