Chennai: Two TNPDCL engineers were injured after a breaker in the Mylapore sub-station exploded on Monday evening and triggered a fire. This led to an outage in surrounding areas for nearly two hours.Officials said a breaker in the 230kV power substation exploded around 6pm. Sampathkumar and Raja suffered minor burns. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.The incident led to an outage in Royapettah, Triplicane, Thousand Lights and Gopalapuram, as supply to as many as eight substations was interrupted. Consumers could not contact TNPDCL’s ‘Minnagam’ helpline to report grievances, as it is powered by the Mylapore substation and became defunct.Fire personnel from Mylapore rushed to the spot to put out the fire, while a rectification team rushed to the substation and tried to restore power supply. TNPDCL officials said that the situation was under control and that power supply would be restored to all areas soon.
