A fire broke out in a commercial three-storeyed building at Main Bazar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town on Sunday morning, officials said.

An (F&ES) Officials said that the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Baramulla received a distress call at around 9:41 AM and immediately rushed fire tenders to the spot.

Upon arrival, fire personnel found that two shops and a store had caught fire, following which firefighting operations were launched without delay to contain the blaze.

They said that due to swift and coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control within a short span of time, and cooling operations were carried out to prevent any re-ignition.

In the incident, a crockery shop and a cosmetic shop on the ground floor sustained partial damage. On the first floor, a readymade garments shop was partially affected, while a storeroom on the second floor containing garments and cosmetics also suffered partial damage.

Officials said that the timely action by the fire personnel helped in saving property worth crores from being damaged in the blaze.

The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar, while Deputy Director F&ES Sopore, Mohammad Arif Mir, and other senior officers were present on the spot to oversee the operation.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, though further investigation is underway, they added.
