Pune: Alephata police late on Sunday night registered an FIR against three fourth-year students of a private college in Junnar after a first-year student accused them of ragging and assaulting him on the institute’s premises around 5.30pm on Aug 14.The students alleged in his complaint that the accused seniors summoned him on Aug 14 evening, told students to set aside their cellphones and then made a remark about him. When he objected, the complainant alleged that the accused students slapped and assaulted him.The fresher further alleged that he was assaulted again while leaving the college campus. One of the accused allegedly also confronted him for leaving without informing the seniors. Following the incident, the student approached the college trustee and principal and submitted a formal complaint. The institution’s anti-ragging committee conducted a hearing on Aug 17.“The complainant appeared before the committee and recorded his statement, but the accused students did not attend the hearing. The committee subsequently permitted the student to pursue legal action,” a police officer said.The police said a case had been registered under relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “The three accused students have been served notices to appear before the police on Wednesday for recording their statements,” sub-inspector Rajendra Hile, the investigating officer in the case, said.
