Patna: A 21-year-old student has been accused of harassing a woman and her daughter for the past six months in Muzaffarpur district. An FIR was lodged at Town police station on Saturday, alleging that the accused sent obscene messages, issued threats and intimidated the family.According to the complaint, the accused was a school friend of the woman’s daughter and frequently visited their home for group study sessions. The family trusted him because of his friendship with the daughter.The woman alleged that, with her husband working in Qatar and only she and her daughter staying at home, the student gradually increased his visits and began interfering in their personal matters. When they objected to his behaviour, he allegedly started harassing and threatening them.Police said the accused allegedly called and sent messages from multiple phone numbers, using abusive and obscene language. He also claimed to have hacked the family’s CCTV cameras and email account.The complaint further alleges that the student threatened to circulate the mother and daughter’s photos and videos on social media and damage their reputation if they did not comply with his demands.Among the most serious allegations is a threat to kidnap the daughter and sell her into prostitution if his demands were not met. The woman told police that she and her daughter had been living in constant fear because of the threats.Town SHO Jaiprakash Singh said, “An FIR has been registered on the basis of the woman’s complaint. Statements will be recorded and further legal action will be taken as per law. Assistance from the cyber cell may also be sought to verify the allegations of hacking and obscene messages.”He added that police have sought help from cyber experts to examine cellphones and other electronic devices linked to the case.
