Kanpur: An FIR has been registered against the driver of an emergency medical officer at Kanshiram Hospital after a viral video purportedly showed him prescribing medicines to patients while the doctor was away at a court hearing on Monday. The health department has also constituted a three-member panel to investigate the incident.Chakeri station in charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said the FIR was registered against the driver, Dev Pratap Singh, a resident of Aharouli Ghat village in Kanpur Dehat, on the complaint of CMS Dr Piyush Mishra.The purported video showed Dr Ramkesh’s driver seated in the OPD, calling patients individually, asking about their illnesses and writing prescriptions on slips of paper. He allegedly told patients that the medicines were unavailable at the hospital and had to be purchased from outside. The video went viral on social media, following which the health department sought an explanation from the doctor.CMO Haridatt Nemi formed the team to examine the video, the doctor’s absence and the circumstances in which the driver allegedly prescribed medicines. He sought a report within three days, after which responsibility will be fixed and further action taken.Taking cognisance of the viral video, the CMS had sought an explanation from Dr Ramkesh and submitted a written complaint against the driver at Chakeri police station.Dr Ramkesh told hospital authorities that he had gone to court in connection with a hearing and that the person writing prescriptions was perhaps his driver. He said he had removed the driver for acting arbitrarily.The CMS said authorities were investigating how the driver reached the doctor’s chair and how many patients received prescriptions from him.
