Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Monday directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to draft a proposal of an alternate roadmap to bypass the wildlife sanctuary in Koderma.A division bench of Chief Justice MS Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar were hearing a public interest litigation for the four-lane extension program of the NHAI in Koderma.

The NHAI project of four laning the highway from Koderma to Medha Tari passes through the wildlife sanctuary in Koderma. The extension work would result in large number of trees being felled for the project.The court directed the NHAI to hold meetings with the State Wildlife Board to bring about an alternate alignment for the extension of the four-lane highway.The NHAI informed the court that it is also preparing an alternate project in consultation with the wildlife board. The new DPR prepared by the NHAI will try to protect the wildlife sanctuary and preserve the ecology as much as possible, the counsel for the NHAI told the court.The case will next be heard on April 28.
