Mansa: Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot on Friday said the fight for justice for victims of drug abuse in Punjab would be taken from “sadak to Sansad” by the Congress.Seeking justice for an activist who fought against the spread of drugs in Punjab should not remain confined to his family or a handful of people, Pilot said while addressing protesters in Mansa after meeting the bereaved family of Parwinder Singh.Pilot said Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was deeply pained by the incident. He added that he would submit a report on the case to Gandhi so that the matter could be raised in Parliament, while Congress workers would continue their agitation on the streets.Pilot, accompanied by Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh, visited Mansa to offer condolences to the family. He said Congress MPs in Delhi and party functionaries across Punjab would turn the issue into a sustained campaign and take it to every household and village. He said the time had come to end drug abuse and the atmosphere of fear prevailing in Punjab.Pilot alleged that gangsterism and gun culture had reached dangerous levels in Punjab over the past four years, with incidents of shootings occurring in broad daylight. He said he wanted to meet families affected by gangsterism and drugs, share their grief and assure them that the Congress stood with them in their fight for justice.Party leaders assured the family that the Congress would stand firmly with them and, if necessary, take the battle for justice from the streets to the courts.Pargat Singh said the party shared the grief of families affected by drugs, particularly that of Parwinder Singh Jhota, whose campaign had begun with a fight against the misuse of capsules and other medicinal drugs in Punjab.“Parwinder’s murder was a state-sponsored murder. If some misguided people try to destroy evidence in this case, they will have to explain whether they stand with the AAP government or with the unfortunate father, Bhim Singh,” Pargat said.Referring to the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, Pargat Singh said justice had still not been delivered in that case. “Only those who have endured the pain of carrying the body of a young son on their shoulders can truly understand what a father goes through,” he said.Pargat Singh also assured the gathering that he would raise the issue during the upcoming Assembly session.
