Vadodara: A broken piece of fibre and CCTV footage helped Chhani police track down a car driver who allegedly mowed down a pedestrian on the outskirts of the city a few days ago.Police arrested Ilyas Qazi, a resident of Gorwa, for allegedly ramming his car into a pedestrian, later identified as Hanuman Jaat, on the National Highway 48.Qazi allegedly sped away from the spot, while passers-by rushed Jaat to a hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.Police registered a case against the unidentified car driver and began searching for the vehicle. Investigators recovered a broken piece of the fibre cover of the car’s rear-view mirror, which helped them determine the vehicle’s colour.The cops then examined CCTV footage from the Vasad toll plaza around the time of the accident and spotted around a dozen cars of the same colour passing through the toll gate. Police contacted the owners of the vehicles based on their registration numbers and eventually traced Qazi, whose car had sustained damage.Jaat, 55, was a native of Rajasthan and used to run a roadside stall in Padamla village.
