Nagpur: A day after multiple schools across the city were shaken by bomb threat emails, an atmosphere of caution persisted on Wednesday, with several institutions recording lower-than-usual attendance as anxious parents chose to keep their children at home. Although police teams conducted extensive searches and found no explosives, concerns lingered among parents, particularly because the emails warned that bomb attacks could occur “anywhere and at any time” until August 31.While many students appeared relatively unfazed, with some even viewing the disruption as an unexpected break from routine, parents remained worried about their children’s safety. In response, schools have tightened security measures, restricting vehicle entry and stepping up bag checks and surveillance on campus.A source told TOI that attendance at CPS Wardhaman Nagar was particularly low, with only five to six students present in each class. “Our parents were extremely sceptical about sending us to school, at least for the time being,” a student told TOI.At CPS International, attendance among Class 12 students was particularly low, with only two students reportedly turning up for classes.An eighth-grade student from a school in Besa said attendance was slightly below normal, though the mood within the campus remained calm. “The principal addressed us during the morning assembly and assured us that there was no need to worry about the threats and that we were safe. We were asked to remain calm and continue with our classes,” the student said.A teacher from a school in Besa, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “In my class, nine students were absent today. We have also stepped up security measures. School vans are not being allowed inside the premises, and security and bag checks have been intensified.” The teacher added that the school was closely monitoring the situation and taking additional precautions to reassure students and parents.For schools, the immediate challenge is to restore a sense of normalcy while maintaining stringent security protocols. However, the threat warning of possible blasts until August 31 has left many parents unwilling to take any chances.
