Exact cause of death will be confirmed only after postmortem and forensic reports are received, the DFO said

Jamshedpur: A 35-year-old female elephant was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Bhangaon village in West Singhbhum district early Friday, forest officials said.Chaibasa DFO Aditya Narayan said preliminary findings point to electrocution, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after postmortem and forensic reports are received.Officials said one of the animal’s incisors was reportedly missing, prompting the forest department to examine the possible poaching angle. However, they added that no criminal motive had been established so far.The death comes amid frequent elephant movement in Jagannathpur and nearby areas over the past year. Herds have regularly entered villages, damaging crops and houses and causing concern among residents.Forest officials said around seven elephant deaths have been reported from the area during this period.
