Ahmedabad: After widespread protests erupted across Gujarat over steep increase in fees in self-financed medical and dental colleges, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) once again decided to approach the chief minister, demanding an immediate rollback. Despite earlier appeals, no resolution was announced by the state govt so far. Recently, fees for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in private medical and dental colleges increased by over 10-12%, sparking anger among students and parents. The IMA previously wrote to the CM urging him to revoke the fee hike for the academic years 2025-26 and 2026-27, citing that the sudden increase would severely affect deserving students from middle-class backgrounds. They warned that many capable students might have to give up their medical dreams due to unaffordable fees.Various student bodies also raised their voices against the hike and demanded a rollback. With the medical admission process set to begin soon, the IMA emphasised that a clear decision on fees must be taken before the process starts. They now plan to meet the CM in person to press for a rollback. A similar move is now being sought for self-financed colleges before admissions begin.|
