Akola: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended licences of two edible oil repacking units in Akola’s MIDC after authorities suspected adulteration and alleged violations related to sale and handling of edible oil.On Aug 26, FDA team seized 7,026.8 kg of edible oil valued at 11.82 lakh from the two units. Samples of refined soyabean oil were sent for laboratory analysis.Authorities seized 3,428.4 kg of edible oil worth 6.21 lakh from the first unit. As per FDA, the inspection unearthed several irregularities like the absence of a laboratory on the premises, and the sale of loose edible oil. Concerns were also raised regarding possible reuse and adulteration of oil.Officials further found the establishment held a licence for repacking edible oil but was allegedly also engaged in trading activities. Food safety officer Kishor Borchate monitored the action.Similarly, FDA team seized 3,598.4 kg of edible oil valued at 5.61 lakh at another establishment. Inspection reportedly revealed that the laboratory at the unit was not updated and lacked reports. Officials also found the sale of loose edible oil and other deficiencies related to food safety norms. Food safety officer Ravindra Solanke carried out the action.Officials said the action was part of efforts to ensure compliance with food safety standards and prevent the sale of substandard or adulterated edible oil.
