Nagpur: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Saturday raided a private hospital in Quetta Colony and seized a large quantity of medicines, syringes, saline bottles and medical equipment allegedly stored in the basement violating the prescribed norms.“The stock was found to be in breach of storage requirements under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Action was initiated as the drugs were being stored under improper conditions,” sources said.Hospital authorities maintained that the medicines and equipment had been kept in the basement temporarily due to space constraints and were to be shifted to the pharmacy shortly. They claimed they were caught off guard by the inspection and would present their explanation before the FDA.The raid has sent shockwaves through Nagpur’s medical fraternity. The FDA is yet to issue an official statement on the inspection or disclose the action proposed against the hospital.
