Prayagraj: In an effort to strengthen community outreach and closely monitor police functioning, Fatehpur superintendent of police, Abhimanyu Manglik, has launched a new initiative under which he will hold Jan Sunwai programme at police stations across the district. As part of the plan, Manglik will personally sit at a local police station on alternate working days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays.“The aim is not only to bridge communication gaps between the police and the public but also to directly oversee how police personnel at the thana level are functioning. This also helps the staff understand the priorities of their SP in maintaining law and order and in addressing public grievances promptly,” Manglik said. The initiative began on May 2 and has already been held at three police stations — Kotwali, Khaga and Mahila Thana — in Fatehpur district.According to the SP, the plan is to cover all 22 police stations in the district over a period of a little over a month.“When a senior police officer sits at a police station and hears complaints firsthand, it provides insight into the nature of disputes — such as land-related issues — coming to that station and how the staff is handling them. The thana personnel are also made clearly aware of the priorities of their SP,” he said.Officials said it is the first time a Fatehpur SP has adopted such an approach of directly interacting with complainants at the thana level, reducing the need for people to frequently visit senior officers’ offices for grievance redressal. The initiative is also expected to improve accountability within the force, as the presence of the district’s top police officer allows for closer scrutiny of on-ground functioning while also giving personnel an opportunity to flag challenges faced during duty, officials added.
