Dumka: Two men from Rampurhat in Birbhum district of Bengal were crushed to death by a speeding truck on the Dumka – Rampurhat Main Road (NH-114 A) in Shikaripada on Monday. Babur Ali Sheikh (45) and Harun Sheikh (30) lived and worked in Deoghar and were going to their homes to celebrate Eid with families.Babur and Harun were on a bike when the truck, loaded with stone chips, hit them near a Durga Temple under Shikaripada police station limits from the opposite direction around 10:30 am. The driver of the truck and his helper abandoned the truck and fled the spot. The truck was bound for Bihar.Babur and Harun ran a business of scraps and also sold utensils door-to-door in Deoghar. The were residents of Beladanga village under Rampurhat police station limits.“The vehicle has been seized and we have called the owner. He has not turned up yet. An FIR was registered and further probe is underway,” said Amit Kumar Lakra, the officer-in-charge of Shikaripada police station, said. A crowd gathered at the spot and took to sloganeering against the district administration for failing to prevent accidents on this stretch. The road blockade was lifted after circle officer Kapildev Thakur spoke to the agitators.
