Vadodara: In a tense late-night rescue operation, Abhayam counsellors rescued a 22-year-old woman who allegedly fled and hid on a farmhouse wall after her 62-year-old boyfriend threatened her with a sword in Karjan taluka.According to Abhayam officials, the incident took place three days ago when the woman called their helpline seeking help. She told counsellors that she was at a remote farmhouse and feared an attack by its owner.The woman had been working as the caretaker of the farmhouse for a monthly salary of Rs 25,000. Officials said she had entered into a relationship with the 62-year-old owner about two years ago and the two had grown close.The man, who lived in Vadodara, frequently visited the farmhouse. His wife had died a few years ago, while his children reportedly live in the US. Other staff members at the property were also aware of the relationship, officials said.The relationship became strained a few months ago when the woman returned from a short leave and allegedly discovered that the man had paid large sums of money to three women in her absence.“She learnt about it from his Google Pay transaction history and confronted him. She told him that he had not increased her salary but had paid other women such large amounts. This led to an argument and he allegedly assaulted her”, an Abhayam official said.Three days ago, the couple reportedly had another heated argument, during which the man allegedly tried to attack the woman with a sword. She fled the farmhouse but, unable to escape the remote location, climbed onto a wall at the back of the property and hid there in the darkness. She then called Abhayam for help.“The man had switched off all the lights at the farmhouse, making it extremely difficult for us to locate the property. We asked the woman to switch on her mobile phone torch so that we could identify her exact location. At the same time, we were concerned that the man might come out and attack our team,” officials said.The Abhayam team eventually reached the woman and rescued her and informed police about the incident. Her belongings were also retrieved from the farmhouse and handed back to her.
