Patna: Hundreds of farmers under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha, Bihar, on Tuesday took out a procession to protest against the proposed satellite townships, opposing the govt’s plan to acquire their land. The protesters said they wanted their land back rather than compensation.The farmers marched through the city, raising slogans, and reached Dak Bungalow crossing, where they sat at the intersection and demanded a meeting with chief minister Samrat Choudhary.According to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the procession remained peaceful. The organisation alleged that police personnel repeatedly tried to provoke the protesters but they did not resort to violence. It further alleged that police later resorted to a “brutal lathi charge” on the protesters.The organisation claimed that six farmer representatives, including Jitendra Prasad Arya, Ravindra Singh, deputy chief of Fatuha, and Bijendra Singh, were taken to Kotwali police station while arrangements were allegedly being made for a delegation to meet the chief minister.Farmers’ representative Ashok Singh claimed that 35 protesters were taken to Maner police station and detained. He condemned the alleged police action and demanded immediate and unconditional release of the detained farmers and their representatives.The Samyukta Kisan Morcha warned of a wider protest across Bihar if the farmers and their representatives were not released.
