Kanpur: A 60-year-old farmer was allegedly injured in a suspected leopard attack in Etawah’s Jaswantnagar on Thursday night.However, regional forest sub-inspector Sachin Yadav said the animal involved was a fishing cat, which resembles a leopard but is about the size of a dog.According to information, the victim, Sahukar (60), was returning home from his field around 5 pm when the animal attacked him, leaving him with scratches on his back, chest, neck and legs.Villagers said that two weeks ago, the animal killed four goats and injured two others in Jakhan village.They alleged that the forest department had failed to take significant steps to capture the animal or protect residents.Officials said forest personnel would conduct a rescue operation and try to capture it.Villagers accused the department of shirking responsibility and said they would submit a memorandum to the district magistrate if the animal was not caught soon.
