Rajkot: A 52-year-old farmer was hacked to death at his house in Dadli village of Vinchhiya taluka of Rajkot in the wee hours of Friday.Jayanti Solanki was found in a pool of blood on his cot. Based on a complaint filed by his wife, Manju Solanki, 50, Vinchhiya police registered a case of murder.According to police, Solanki had dinner with his family at the farmhouse on Thursday night before going to sleep in the courtyard. The killing was discovered when his son Amrat went to wake him up.A preliminary postmortem found that Solanki died from injuries caused by a bladed object. Police said the victim suffered deep wounds on his face, left shoulder and wrist.“Investigators are probing all angles and are examining technical data and local surveillance, to ascertain the motive for the killing,” said Rajkot SP Vijay Singh Gurjar.Police sources said investigators are also examining the statements of the deceased’s son and daughter-in-law. The couple told police that they discovered Solanki’s body only after waking in the morning.Investigators are probing whether they heard any disturbance at night, given that they were sleeping in a room close to where Solanki was attacked. Police are also trying to discern if the victim resisted or raised the alarm.According to the investigating officer, A C Damor, Solanki was engaged in agriculture and is survived by his wife, five daughters and one son.Investigators are probing various possible motives, including personal enmity, an illicit relationship or other undisclosed reasons. Police are also examining technical evidence to identify the killer.
