Gurgaon: A 40-year-old farmer died of electrocution while shifting an aluminium sprinkler pipe that came in contact with a low-hanging 11,000-volt power line in a wheat field in Tirpari village on Thursday.The incident took place around 2pm when Surender Kumar, a resident of Tirpari, had gone to irrigate the field with his nephew Rahul, police said. Kumar cultivated about 6.5 acres of agricultural land on a sharecropping basis that belonged to Omkar, a resident of Jhund Sarai village.According to the complaint filed by Rahul, the two had installed an aluminium sprinkler system for irrigation in the field. While shifting the pipe to another spot, it touched the electricity line and Kumar was electrocuted.A villager, Keshav, who was passing by in his car, stopped to help them. Kumar was taken to SGT Hospital in Budhera, where doctors declared him dead.In his complaint, Rahul alleged that the electricity department has been informed several times that the power lines passing above the field were hanging dangerously low, but no action was taken.Police reached the hospital after receiving information about the death and shifted the body to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.Based on the complaint and initial enquiry, a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS was registered at Farukhnagar police station. “The body was taken to the mortuary and handed over to the victim’s family members after the post-mortem. Further investigation is underway,” sub-inspector Devender Kumar said.
