Gurgaon: The district education officer of Faridabad has warned of action against teachers who are citing their SIR roll revision duties to stay away from regular classes.In an order issued on Thursday, the district officer directed all block education officers to ensure that any remaining election work is strictly conducted from within the teachers’ respective school premises. Furthermore, employees whose duty requires physical presence at external polling locations must formally notify their school heads before leaving. The education authority stressed that compliance with these orders will be strictly enforced across all schools in the district.The order stated that despite most electoral revision work being complete, teachers were using their poll duty as a reason to remain absent from their assigned schools, thereby severely disrupting regular classes.The district officer said the directives aim to restore the academic routine.Welcoming the order, a senior govt school teacher noted, “When election duties overlap with routine academic schedules, managing both without clear administrative boundaries becomes exceptionally difficult. Allowing us to complete the remaining SIR paperwork directly from our posted schools eliminates unnecessary travel and ensures our primary obligation — teaching — remains uninterrupted while administrative mandates are fulfilled.”Another school teacher said many educators found themselves in a tough spot trying to balance house-to-house voter verification with their daily syllabus goals. “This order brings much-needed clarity because school heads can now track attendance accurately, ensuring that students do not lose out on crucial instructional time while staff finish their remaining non-teaching assignments locally,” she said.Emphasising the positive impact on school management, a primary school educator added, “When teachers are forced to leave school premises for prolonged periods without structured communication, it disrupts the entire daily timetable and leaves classrooms unsupervised. Having a clear requirement to inform school heads beforehand and work on voter lists on campus establishes accountability while safeguarding student learning schedules.”
