Rohtak: The farewell of outgoing vice-chancellor Rajbir Singh at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, on Friday was marred by protests by some students, with scenes of celebration and protest unfolding simultaneously on the campus.While some teaching and non-teaching staff distributed sweets to mark the end of Rajbir Singh’s tenure, some students raised slogans against the outgoing VC.The farewell function, held in the VC’s conference room, became a talking point after registrar Krishan Kant Gupta initially stayed away from the event. He later joined the ceremony as a mere formality.Two days ago, Prof Rajbir Singh suspended the registrar. However, Gupta arrived with a reinstatement letter issued by the governor’s office.Among those present in the farewell ceremony was Sessions Judge and Prof Rajbir Singh’s brother Jagdeep Singh. He congratulated Prof Rajbir Singh and wished him good health. Jagdeep Singh is known for pronouncing the 20-year jail sentence in the case of Dera chief Ram Rahim.A student leader reached the VC office and distributed sweets while raising slogans against Prof Rajbir Singh.
