Ludhiana: Three of a family suffered severe burn injuries after an LPG cylinder gas leak led to a blast in their one-room rented accommodation in Bachittar Nagar of Jamalpur area on Thursday early morning. The incident occurred when at around 6:30am, the woman turned on the gas to prepare tea for her husband.The injured are 40-year-old Vinod Mishra, his 37-year-old wife Reema Devi and their son Karan. Due to the impact of the blast, one wall of the room collapsed, besides, cracks also appeared in some parts of the building. Vinod works as a gateman in a factory.The police said the victim’s family was living in a house that has eight rooms in which different families residelive.As soon as the residents of the building and the neighbors heard the blast, they rushed out of the building. The residents managed to douse off the fire and rescued the injured, who were then taken to a hospital.Sub Inspector Parmodh Raj, SHO at Jamalpur police station, said the incident occurred at around 6:30am. Vinod along with his wife and son live in a room that also has a kitchen counter inside. Reema had woken up to prepare tea for her husband in the morning. As soon as she lit up the gas, fire broke out followed by a blast.“The probe reveals that there was already a gas leak in the room, which does not have ventilation. This led to a blast. The couple’s son was sleeping when the incident occurred. Both the mother and son have been admitted to a private hospital near Sherpur Chowk, while Vinod is admitted to another private hospital in Sarabha Nagar. The mother-son duo is critical, while Vinod’s condition is slightly better than theirs,” added the SI.The police also said the locals had helped the family and even took out the LPG cylinder to avoid further damage. Mishra family’s room, including all their goods and electronic appliances, have been completely damaged in the incident. Besides, the building has also got some major cracks due to the impact of the blast.
