Gorakhpur: A couple and their son, returning by car from Ranchi, who died in a road accident, were cremated on Sunday. The newly-wed daughter joined the rituals and buried the pet dog who was with the family in the car. The bodies were taken to Rajghat cremation ground, where the bride’s cousin lit the funeral pyres. After attending his daughter’s wedding function that took place in Ranchi on Apr 20, Khorabar resident Vinay Srivastava (53), a private school teacher, was returning home with his wife Archana (48), son Kritarth (27) and pet dog when their car met with an accident near Mau in the early hours of Saturday. The car went out of control, crossed the divider and collided head-on with a speeding trailer. Late Saturday night, the bodies reached home after postmortem.The last rites were performed by Vinay’s nephew, Anand Srivastava alias Priyanshu, whose wedding was scheduled for May 7 but has now been postponed.
