Bengaluru: A house in Vivekananda Nagar, Electronics City, whose occupants had been away for two days attending to their ailing son, was burgled after miscreants broke open the front door and made away with gold jewellery weighing 450-500 grams.According to a complaint filed by Ebanezer V, a private firm employee, he admitted his younger son to a private hospital on Sept 17 for treatment. He and his wife then stayed at the hospital to care for him.On the morning of Sept 19, his elder son returned home to collect his shuttlecock and racket, locked the house and took the key with him before staying at a friend’s house.The following morning, around 8.30am, Ebanezer’s wife returned home to freshen up but was shocked to find the front door ajar. She immediately informed her husband, who rushed home and inspected the house.The lock on the main door had been broken, while boxes containing jewellery kept inside an iron almirah in the bedroom were found scattered on the floor. The family had kept several gold ornaments, including necklaces, gold chains, bracelets, bangles, earrings and finger rings.However, the complainant said he was yet to ascertain the exact weight and value of the stolen jewellery. He told police he would consult his wife after she returned from the hospital and provide the precise details.A case has been registered under BNS Sections 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship) and 331 (house-trespass or housebreaking). CCTV footage from surrounding buildings and roads is being analysed for clues about the burglars.
