Kanpur: A man injured in a truck collision in Rura police station area of Kanpur Dehat died late on Monday night, taking the death toll in the accident to three. On Tuesday, families of the three deceased blocked the Shivli-Rura road near Jugrajpur, demanding action against the accused truck driver and compensation. The blockade continued for about 1.5 hours before a former MP and the SDM reached the spot. Rupendra Pal (32), son of Rajpal, Anurag Pal (32), son of late Gayaprasad, and Sumit Pal (30), son of Subhashchandra, residents of Jugrajpur in Rura police station area, were returning on a bike from a ceremony at Tigai-Rura on Saturday night at 11pm when a 22-wheeler trailer coming from Shivli side hit their bike. All three were seriously injured and later succumbed. The truck driver fled the spot. Rupendra was taken to the district hospital Akbarpur, where doctors declared him dead. Anurag and Sumit were admitted to Hallet. Within a few hours, Anurag died and 36 hours after treatment, Sumit also succumbed.The villagers along with the families of all three deceased blocked the road and demanded the arrest of the absconding truck driver. They also demanded Rs 15 lakh compensation for the families of each deceased.Former MP Anil Shukla and SDM Rajkumar Pandey reached the spot and tried to calm the situation. The SDM assured that the accused driver would be arrseted soon and Rs 5 lakh financial assistance will be given to the families of all three deceased under the Kisan Durghatna Bima Yojana. The villagers then ended the protest and took the bodies for the last rites.
