Hyderabad: A cheating case has been registered against self-styled ‘gold man’ P Suresh Kumar, alias Surya Bhai, for allegedly duping a goldsmith of Rs 32 lakh by promising to supply gold at a lower price. On Thursday, Attapur police registered a criminal case against goldsmith Krishna Chary of ECIL, his friend Naveen Singh, and others based on a complaint filed by Surya Bhai. In his complaint, Surya Bhai alleged that the accused trespassed into his house in Attapur on the afternoon of June 24 and forcibly took away his gold chain and mobile phones after making him sign a cheque and bond paper when he refused to lend them money. However, when the police summoned the accused for questioning, they found that Surya Bhai had allegedly cheated Krishna Chary and filed a false complaint to cover it up. Following this, the Attapur police registered a zero FIR against Surya Bhai based on Chary’s complaint and transferred it to the Narayanguda police on Thursday.According to his complaint, Chary, who runs a gold jewellery manufacturing unit in Attapur, met Surya Bhai at a café in Narayanguda in Jan to discuss a gold business deal. Surya Bhai allegedly offered to sell him 1.5 kg of gold for Rs 1 crore, below the prevailing market price. As Chary could not arrange the entire amount, Surya Bhai allegedly suggested that he pay an advance, collect the gold, sell it for profit, and clear the remaining payment later.Believing the offer, Chary claimed he paid Rs 32 lakh as an advance. However, Surya Bhai neither delivered the promised gold nor returned the money, Narayanguda inspector M Saideshwar said.Based on the complaint, the Narayanguda police registered a case against Surya Bhai under Sections 318 (4) (cheating), 316 (2) (criminal breach of trust) of the BNS on Friday. Police have issued a notice to Chary seeking supporting evidence and summoned Surya Bhai for questioning. Police said no arrest has been made so far.Meanwhile, Attapur inspector K Nageshwar Rao said the police would file a closure report before the court in the case registered on Surya Bhai’s complaint, stating that he had furnished false information. “While filing the closure report, we will inform the court that the complainant provided false information. If the court permits, we will register a case against Surya Bhai for attempting to mislead the police,” the inspector said.
