Nagpur: A business lawyer from Godhani was cheated of ₹50 lakh in an online stock market scam. The complainant, Subodh Patil (47), was added to a WhatsApp group titled ‘22 VIP Service Group’ by an unknown number (8050366467). The fraudsters, posing as stock market experts operating under the name ‘Sundaram AMC’, lured him with promises of 10-15% guaranteed returns on investments.
To gain his trust, the scammers shared convincing chats and forged documents, following which Patil transferred large sums of money to multiple bank accounts. He later realised he had been duped when the accused began avoiding him after he demanded the promised returns and eventually stopped all communication.Police said several WhatsApp numbers were involved in the racket and suspected that victims across India may have lost crores of rupees to the scam.Based on Patil’s complaint, cyber police have registered a case. No arrests have been made so far.
