Kanpur: A man posing as a Rapid Action Force (RAF) constable allegedly lured a woman into marriage and opened three bank accounts in her name, which were allegedly used for transactions involving money obtained through cyber fraud, police said on Wednesday.The fraud came to light after the bank accounts were frozen following a cyber crime complaint, prompting the woman to approach the police.In her complaint, Chandni Chauhan, a resident of Lavkushpuram in Kalyanpur, alleged that she came into contact with the accused in Jan 2026 through an online matrimonial platform.She said the man introduced himself as Suraj alias Ranveer Singh, claiming to be an RAF constable posted in Delhi, and showed her a fake identity card to establish his credentials.The woman alleged that the accused obtained her Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other documents on the pretext of advertisement-related work and subsequently opened three bank accounts in her name.She later discovered that the accounts had allegedly been used for transactions linked to cyber fraud.Acting on the police commissioner’s directions, police registered an FIR against the accused and a few others.DCP West S.M. Qasim Abidi said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
