Kolkata: A 27-year-old woman, a resident of an apartment in east Behala’s Muchipara area, alleged a self-styled priest and his associates duped her of cash and gold over three years on the pretext of conducting rituals to ward off an “evil influence”. The priest propositioned her and outraged her modesty, she alleged.According to the complaint, the case goes back to Oct 14, 2023, when the accused posed as a priest and falsely promised the victim of “altering her fate”. Convinced, she reportedly agreed to host rituals at her home and ended up paying the accused Rs 3,29,000. In 2025, the accused and his aides had spiked her food and decamped with gold jewellery as she lost consciousness.
