Rajkot: Porbandar Cybercrime police registered an FIR against an unidentified individual for creating a fake Instagram account to impersonate and defame a 20-year-old woman college student.The complainant, a resident of a village in Porbandar district and a final-year BCA student, approached the police after discovering that her identity had been stolen and an unauthorized profile had been created. The accused was using her photos and identity to interact with others online.According to the complaint, the matter came to light on the evening of July 22, 2026, when a classmate alerted her via Instagram about a profile identical to her’s. On checking it, the victim discovered that the account’s display picture and multiple wall posts featured her photographs — without her consent. The user of the fake profile had also allegedly been messaging others while falsely claiming to be her, in manner that would tarnish her reputation.After an application of complaint was submitted on July 23, Cybercrime police traced the account’s activity and found that the profile had been accessed across multiple devices and was later operated from a modified URL.
