Mumbai: No new work orders are to be given to contractors who delay completion of projects, said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday.At a war room meeting at the Sahyadri state guest house to review the progress of various infrastructure projects, Fadnavis said agencies must pay attention to the completion of a project within a given timeline. “Infrastructure projects should be completed within 3.5 years. The time taken by a contractor to complete a project must be one of the criteria for selection. There are many difficulties in the completion of a project. However, mechanisms must overcome these difficulties,” he said.While reviewing the Dharavi slum redevelopment project, Fadnavis asked for orders to be issued to provide relief to entrepreneurs in Dharavi from state GST. He instructed that issues regarding the tender process for the Dharavi redevelopment project need not be brought again before the cabinet. He directed departments to coordinate and resolve the various issues.On the progress of redevelopment of BDD chawls, the CM said chawl houses currently occupied by residents at Worli, NM Joshi Marg and Naigaon in Dadar should be taken over without delay and the redevelopment of the next phase started.Seeking the progress report of the Thane-Borivli tunnel project, he said it must be completed within the prescribed time-frame. On the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project, Fadnavis said it must be completed by January 2029.He further said the land acquisition process should be expedited for the Virar-Alibaug multi-modal corridor. While pointing out that the infrastructure would improve the land value in the surrounding areas, the CM said areas need to be identified around this route and govt should promote the development of a specific industry by an investor.The progress of work on various Metro lines was also reviewed at the meeting.
