Mangaluru: Despite the bifurcation of Mangalore University to create Kodagu University, an administrative deadlock continues over the status of dozens of permanent faculty members posted at Field Marshal KM Cariappa College and the PG Centre in Chikka Aluvara.Officially, Mangalore University has been fully bifurcated, and Kodagu University has been operating independently since the academic year 2025–26. However, the issue of permanent faculty appointed by Mangalore University remains unresolved. Though recruited under MU, many staff continue to serve in Kodagu, with faculty urging the state government to facilitate their transfer back to the parent institution. Kodagu University was announced in 2023.For instance, Field Marshal KM Cariappa College, a former constituent college of Mangalore University, has 28 permanent staff, including four non-teaching employees appointed under MU. Principal Major Raghava B said that he and several others have sought transfers but are yet to receive any response. “All of us have opted to move back to our parent institution as the college now falls under Kodagu University,” he said. The issue of transferring permanent faculty to their parent institutions has been repeatedly discussed at syndicate meetings, including the most recent one. If permanent faculty are not transferred back to MU, they may face issues at retirement, as most are under the old pension scheme, while Kodagu University follows the National Pension System (NPS). Also, colleges now under Kodagu University have not appointed enough guest faculty, increasing the workload on the permanent staff, said a source.Meanwhile, some of the permanent faculty appointed for Kodagu colleges before the bifurcation have been deputed to Mangalore University’s campuses in Dakshina Kannada.
