Kolkata: Students, workers and faculty members of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) on Wednesday organized a sit-in demonstration against the proposed Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2025.

They had, earlier this month, organized a candlelight march to protest the same.

“The Parliament is in session and the draft ISI Bill is with the cabinet now. Despite our sustained objection, the ministry of statistics and program implementation is proceeding with the new Bill,” a faculty member said.

“If enacted, the bill will cause unprecedented disruption to the institute, which has so far been a well-functioning one,” the faculty member added.
