Prayagraj: Construction of the Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University received a fresh push on Friday after divisional commissioner Soumya Agarwal expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work and directed the executing agency to complete the project by Nov 15. She also ordered deployment of 500 to 800 additional labourers within a week to speed up construction, warning that the managing director of the construction company would be summoned if satisfactory progress is not achieved before the next review.During a site inspection of the under-construction campus, Agarwal reviewed the project’s progress with officials of the departments concerned and the executing agency. She examined the designs and drawings of various buildings and assessed work underway in different blocks, including civil construction, tiling, plastering, false ceiling installation and lift works.The commissioner directed officials to ensure mandatory quality testing and verification of every construction activity to prevent technical issues in the future. She also instructed them to coordinate with the university administration, vice-chancellor and registrar to immediately issue procurement orders for furniture, classrooms, hostels and other essential facilities so that the campus becomes fully functional as soon as construction is completed. She further directed officials to complete installation of Wi-Fi, sound systems, fire safety infrastructure, fire NOC, fire water reservoir, solid waste management system and sewage treatment plant within the stipulated timeline. Agarwal also asked that sports infrastructure be developed in consultation with experts, the badminton court be equipped with standard wooden flooring and a canopy be installed over the open-air theatre. Later, the commissioner inspected the ongoing flood protection and anti-erosion works on the right bank of the Ganga at Dengurpur village in Manda block of Meja tehsil. Reviewing the Rs 7.20 crore project involving protection of a 222-metre stretch of the riverbank, she directed officials to maintain quality and complete the work within the prescribed timeframe. Agarwal also interacted with the village head and local residents to obtain feedback and instructed officials to promptly address issues and suggestions related to the project.
