Patna: The Bihar police headquarters has initiated the process for transferring police personnel from inspectors to constables who have completed the prescribed tenure in their respective districts, ranges and units.The personnel and welfare division issued guidelines on Friday, directing police formations to begin the transfer exercise based on the completion of the prescribed tenure.Under the Bihar Police (Amendment) Act, 2022, personnel from the rank of inspector to constable can serve for a maximum of five years in a district and eight years in a police range. Their cumulative tenure across different police units has also been capped at eight years.The exercise will cover inter-district, inter-range and inter-unit transfers. A Transfer Committee, constituted by the DGP, will take the final decision based on recommendations from Regional Selection Boards and the offices concerned.The headquarters said the tenure would be calculated as on Aug 31, 2026. Personnel with less than two years left before retirement will be excluded from the transfer consideration.The directive, approved by the DGP, has been circulated to senior police officers and other formations concerned. They have been asked to prepare lists of eligible personnel in both hard and soft copies.SSPs and SPs have been instructed to verify the data before forwarding the lists. The headquarters said officers concerned would be held responsible for discrepancies or errors in the submitted information.The directive, issued by the DIG (personnel), has been circulated to DGO, Additional DGPs, IGs, DIGs and other commissions and training institutions concerned.
