T’puram: Excise department seized around 1.5kg of ganja on Thursday and recorded the arrest of two persons on Friday. The accused, Vineeth (37) and Sinu (40), both of Thiruvananthapuram, were caught during a vehicle inspection while transporting the contraband in an autorickshaw.Excise officials said the duo attempted to smuggle the ganja under the guise of a routine ride to avoid suspicion. However, they were intercepted during a routine inspection conducted as part of intensified surveillance ahead of the elections.Officials said the accused had managed to transport the contraband without raising suspicion initially, but their movements appeared unusual during checking, leading to a detailed inspection and subsequent seizure.Preliminary probe suggests that the accused were planning to distribute the ganja among school and college students in the city. The operation was led by Thiruvananthapuram excise CI Shyamkumar C and his team. Further investigation is under way.
