Another Excavator Pulls Out Jahir (32) After Removing Debris, But He Succumbs To InjuriesGurgaon: A 32-year-old excavator operator died after being buried under the soil when a pit caved in during the sanitation work in Faridabad on Sunday afternoon.Jahir Khan was operating the heavy machine at the site where a sewer line was being laid along the service road of Delhi-Mathura-Agra Highway under Sector 31 police station limits.Another excavator was brought to the site to remove the debris and after nearly 20 minutes of digging, Jahir was pulled out. By then, he succumbed to his injuries.Jahir was working as the heavy machine operator for the past five to six years.

He is survived by his wife and four children.According to police, the accident occurred around 3pm when workers were excavating the pit nearly eight feet deep. A police officer said, “Jahir — a native of Hathin area in Palwal — died after being buried when the soil collapsed during sewer line excavation. No complaint has been received from the family so far.”“During the operation, the front bucket of the excavator became lodged in soil and stones. Along with this, some wire also got stuck. Jahir and a labourer, Ghanshyam, got down from the machine and entered the pit to free the bucket when the loose earth suddenly collapsed, burying him beneath it. Ghanshyam also came under the impact of the cave-in but escaped with injuries to his hands and legs as he was standing near the edge of the pit,” the officer said, adding that the labourer’s condition is stable at a hospital.Police shifted the body to the mortuary at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for an autopsy. They are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, including whether adequate safety measures were in place at the excavation site.
