Jaipur: A special CBI court in Jaipur has convicted a former Chief Office Superintendent of West Central Railway (WCR) and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case, officials said Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, Jalandhar Yogi, who was posted in the office of the assistant engineer at Gangapur City in Sawai Madhopur district. The judgment was delivered on April 4 after the court found him guilty under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to CBI officials, the case dates back to June 16, 2020, when a complaint was lodged alleging that Yogi demanded a bribe to clear a pending final bill related to executed work. He had allegedly sought Rs 11,500 from the complainant to process and release the payment. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as part of the bribe. “The accused was arrested during the trap operation, and the bribe amount was also recovered from his possession,” said a CBI officer. Following his arrest, the agency carried out a detailed investigation and filed a chargesheet on Jan 8, 2021, under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. After examining evidence and witnesses during the trial, the court held Yogi guilty of corruption charges and awarded the sentence along with a monetary penalty, bringing the nearly four-year-old case to a close.
