Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday reserved its verdict on the bail plea of social media influencer Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested by the police on allegations of espionage activities. Jyoti is currently confined in Hisar jail for more than 9 months. Justice Surya Pratap Singh reserved the verdict on Jyoti’s petition for release on regular bail after hearing her counsel and the state govt. While the police strongly objected to the bail plea, her counsel mainly argued that despite her contact with Pakistani nationals, she was not proven to access classified data or intentionally compromise the country’s security. The HC was also informed about the official statements issued by the SP Hisar confirming that she did not share any classified information with her handlers.On May 26, 2025, Hisar police arrested Malhotra on suspicion of espionage. The 33-year-old Hisar resident was then remanded in police custody for 5 days, and thereafter she was sent to judicial custody.
